The wildflowers are gorgeous this year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many bluebonnets.

The last is my best shot.

Listening

Have you ever gone to your bookshelves, thinking you’d exhausted them and needed to go to the bookstore?  Thinking I haven’t a thing to read.  And then things start grabbing your attention.  And you think, maybe my books are telling me something.

I knew I saved all those books from college for a reason.

The tot’s spring break has seriously undermined my crafty productivity – funny how much time two days a week is.  But she’s back to school so (once I catch up) I’ll be able to knit!  Maybe I’ll finish the sweater!  Now that it’s spring!

Bloom!

Every year, it takes me by surprise to see budding leaves and flowers on the trees, to smell the green breeze and hear the trills and jigs of the twitterpated mockingbirds. Every year, the bursting forth of sweetly familiar wildflowers happens for the first time.  Those bright hopeful fields of color renew my spirit and bring a burst of happy like nothing else in this world.

Bluebonnet

Flowers

On a walk through the neighborhood trails today, we spied these blooms. I had to grab some snaps with my phone. This is the first bluebonnet we’ve seen this year – Little Owl was ecstatic. It’s my best shot.

At the farm

The tot and I spent a few days at my folks’ place to celebrate my mama’s birthday.  What a blessing it is to my girl to be able to spend time romping through pastures, climbing on haybales, feeding the horse, patting a pet chicken named Esmerelda, throwing rocks in the creek, roasting marshmallows at a bonfire in the woods.  My childhood was enchanted and I am so grateful to my parents for giving the same magical memories to my Little Owl.

The last one is my best shot. An apple that didn’t fall far from the tree.

Flight

Every year we do the Great Backyard Bird Count.  It is such fun for me, and this year the tot is getting involved, spending ages looking out into the back yard and watching for her beloved cardinals.  We’ve been going to a nearby lake to count the waterfowl as well.  We saw 41 double-crested cormorants on Friday – fun!  We also saw this guy and quite a few of his compadres…. I had to grab a few shots. Unfortunately I was distracted by keeping the tot and her friends from jumping in the lake, so I didn’t have many turn out.

I love the Great Egrets and the Great Blue Herons – there is something so otherworldly and majestic about them.   These are my best shots.

Twirly Girl

Sweet wild one,

Twirling through life,

My dancing fairy,

Leaving smiles in her path.

These are SOOC – I had planned to just take a few quick shots of the two new skirts I made today, but she wanted to have a fairy dance. So I snapped away as she swirled. The last one is my Best Shot.

It’s so nice to spend time, just the two of us. She is such a chatterbox, telling me stories and just happily babbling away. I love to hear her sweet, sage observations about the world. I love to see what’s emerging. She is so delicate, so tough, so fragile and so timeless.

The last one is my best shot this week.
