The wildflowers are gorgeous this year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many bluebonnets. The last is my best shot.

Have you ever gone to your bookshelves, thinking you’d exhausted them and needed to go to the bookstore? Thinking I haven’t a thing to read. And then things start grabbing your attention. And you think, maybe my books are telling me something. I knew I saved all those books from college for a reason. The [...]

Every year, it takes me by surprise to see budding leaves and flowers on the trees, to smell the green breeze and hear the trills and jigs of the twitterpated mockingbirds. Every year, the bursting forth of sweetly familiar wildflowers happens for the first time. Those bright hopeful fields of color renew my spirit and [...]

The tot and I spent a few days at my folks’ place to celebrate my mama’s birthday. What a blessing it is to my girl to be able to spend time romping through pastures, climbing on haybales, feeding the horse, patting a pet chicken named Esmerelda, throwing rocks in the creek, roasting marshmallows at a bonfire in the woods. [...]

Every year we do the Great Backyard Bird Count. It is such fun for me, and this year the tot is getting involved, spending ages looking out into the back yard and watching for her beloved cardinals. We’ve been going to a nearby lake to count the waterfowl as well. We saw 41 double-crested cormorants [...]

The tot and I spend a weekend in the Hill Country. Happy days. It’s so nice to spend time, just the two of us. She is such a chatterbox, telling me stories and just happily babbling away. I love to hear her sweet, sage observations about the world. I love to see what’s emerging. She [...]

“Drink your tea slowly, as if this activity is the axis on which the whole earth revolves. Live this moment. Only this actual moment is life.” — Thich Nhat Hanh There isn’t one that sticks out, but I just love these. Definitely my Best Shot.
Miles Apart

Living where I do is not something I take for granted. But it sure would be nice if my mama were a little closer. Just over 200 miles isn’t that far in the grand scheme of things. But I can’t just load the tot up and go over for a cup of coffee. Thank goodness [...]

Midwinter in this part of the world… Grapefruit season and playing outside. Gotta love it. These are my best shots for the week. So much chaos fun has been going on around here, but what I love the most is the little moments we share. In other news, it has been two days two days [...]
